Luxbite, South Yarra, Melbourne

Luxbite Patisserie and Dessert restaurant Melbourne macarons, meringue monster, banoffee opera cake with sichuan pepper

Bernard and Yen, the Malaysian p√Ętissiers behind Luxbite in South Yarra, infuse a little quirkiness into their exquisite sweet creations. Take their Meringue Monster - while it resembles a tropical plant from a Disney movie, underneath the meringue you will find green tea sponge, watermelon yoghurt, pistachio and sour strawberry mousse combining to create a creamy cake reminiscent of those schoolyard lollies from the 1990's, Warheads. Even their Opera cake shocks the tastebuds with each layer - combining salted toffee buttercream, Sichuan pepper chocolate crunch, banana ganache with a hazelnut sponge. Of course they also stock the ubiquitous macaron, but their flavours are boundary pushing: Kaya Toast, Bamboo Oolong, PB&J, Ribena Lemonade, Lemon, Ginger & Pineapple...
